What is the best way to sell MS 64 pre-1933 coins

I have purchased some MS 64 St. Gaudens from the 1920s. I am intending to sell them soon. The spread on the wholesale and retail is quite high with most coin dealers. Is there a better way to sell directly without paying the high commission to the dealer? E-bay does not seem to be much of a market right now. However, I imagine it will someday work.

Are they certified by PCGS or NGC?
If you sell them on ebay you need to make high quality pics with a scanner, otherwise the buyers won't bid. Even if they are certified.

Yes, they are certified PCGS or NGC.

This is why I'd recommend staying away from certified coins. It's more difficult to unload them when it's time to sell.

The spread is a killer AND if gold replays 79-80 scenerio the price on certified coins will NOT keep pace.

Actually, after reviewing the percentage increase of gold bullion versus the pre-1933 gold, the pre-1933 gold increases much more back in '79. That has certainly been the case so far, even including the spread.

Oh contraire, in 1979 I stood in line behind an older fellow complaining about the metal dealers only paying for weight and not considering a coin's collectable value. No internet then, but I could still see a similar problem occuring. Finding a BUYER willing to pay you a substantial premium could be more difficult than you think.
"After reviewing" the percentage of increase a coin dealer (read salesman) puts on a chart to make you think your getting a great deal paying his premium is all a tactic. Call goldcentral.com and ask about buying bullion. They'll attempt to steer you to collectables instantly. Confiscation and reporting are bogus.

Personally, I'd only consider collectable coins at near bullion prices. But, that's just me. If you're trying to hit a home run on one special coin you might be disappointed.

Yep. Now if we're talking about truly rare coins then that is different. Common date American Gold is a real hustle. Don't fall for this high commission game just stick to the bullion.

I'm sorry to admit I got talked into 4 of those after I had a good base in Au, Ag and palladium. I want out of them too, and was considering ebay. I would MUCH rather have that in silver or commodity stock. They have gone up enough to beat the spread now at least and I was wondering whether to sell them back to the dealer or try ebay.

I stopped using that dealer after that because I called to buy silver. Maybe he meant well, but it left a bad taste, besides making me feel like an idiot for falling for it.

It probably is true that they will have some hot months maybe when gold hits $600 or $800. But getting shut of them will feel good.

I should note that I already have made a fair amount on these coins... Not a ton but enough. The prices quoted by the sellers were previous wholesale market highs as reported in the trade rags ( I think the gray book). I read that page you sent me and it is very interesting. I can get out now and easily convert it into bullion. However, based upon the previous market high data, I will make more if I keep it in the coin... What a pain, I can see why people prefer securities. There is not as much confusion.
